Prettier highlights, or color pickers
Make highlights (unread tabs, current tab & protected tabs) prettier, for example unread tabs could simply be bold (as long as the current tab is kept distinct). Alternatively, add color pickers to people can customize this.

Yes, more highlighting options is a must. For example, I use Chromifox, which means color highlighting looks mega-ugly. Had to go to TreeStyleTab+TMP. With use rich and clearly visible bold for active tab, and italis for unread tabs. With Tab Kit i get default italics that are hard to see and hothing for the current tab.

Yeah, I always thought that the colour/highlighting of the unread and current tabs seemed backwards... Like you should have done it the other way around. I wonder if there's some way that you can make it more visually obvious which is which. e.g., if you put a little "NEW" starburst icon on the tabs that hadn't been read yet, that would be more obvious.

BOTH lightweight and total user-control are prized... so avoid silliness like comparing tab coloring to active theme. (I, however, do not endorse theme-ing / skinning. I prefer reliability, performance, and zero gheyness)

.... while you're at it, awesome developer guy, an option for other-than single colors: gradients or small data URI PNGs ( < 4kB). Perhaps tie in the latter to a stylish style or borrow the concept. data URIs are much preferable and easily portable.
